В статье анализируется концепция возрастов человека, излагаемая Исидором Севильским в его сочинении «Этимологии, или Начала»; сопоставляются трактовки возрастов в «Этимологиях» и других сочинениях Исидора, выявляются его источники. Публикуется перевод посвященного человеку фрагмента XI книги (главы 2, 3 и 4) из «Этимологий», в котором Исидор описывает особенности каждого возраста человека, рассматривает знамения, выражающиеся в рождении людей с различными уродствами, отмечает метаморфозы, происходящие с людьми.

The Etymologies of Isidore, bishop of Seville (c. 560-636), one of the famous Fathers of Church, is the most important encyclopedic work of the early Middle Ages. This issue contains a translation of the XI book (chs. 2, 3, 4). In these chapters the author analyses terms on ages of the person, on signs expressed in a birth of people with various ugliness-es, and also on metamorphoses occuring with people. The foreword presents an analysis of the conception of ages of the person by Isidore of Seville (its sources and specificity) and compares the treatment of age offered in Etymologies and in his other works.
