Статья посвящена англосаксонскому женскому монашеству VII–VIII вв. Анализируется проблема гендерной сегрегации в двойных монастырях. Показано, что монахини-аристократки поддерживали связь с широким кругом светских и духовных лиц посредством личных и эпистолярных контактов. Статус женщины в ранней англосаксонской церкви был высок. Вместе с тем принадлежность аббатис к высшей аристократии не защищала их от королевской опалы, конфликтов и хозяйственноадминистративных проблем, связанных с имущественными делами монастырей.

The paper deals with Anglo-Saxon female monasticism in the 7-8th centuries in the wide scope of its social interaction. It analyzes the degree of gender segregation in Anglo-Saxon double monasteries, sisters’ relations within and outside of coenobium. It is shown that aristocratic nuns kept in touch with a wide variety of secular and ecclesiastical persons through face-to-face and epistolary contacts. Woman’s position in the early Anglo-Saxon church was very favourable. However, abbesses’ connections with the higher circles of society did not avert their conflicts with relatives and bishops, as well as administrative and economic problems, associated with monastic property matters.
