В статье рассматриваются основные подходы, сложившиеся в рамках нового научного направления гендерных исследований — «истории маскулинности». Автором статьи выявляются как условия появления и развития этого направления, так и его познавательный потенциал и дальнейшие перспективы в отечественном историческом знании.

Masculinity as a historical problem is in the process of institutionalization in Russia. Inclusion of masculinity in the field of historical research is the result of a «gender revolution» in the humanities. Institutionalization of the problem of «man as history» requires the determination of the methodological field which the researcher works in. The author poses the questions: can we analyze crisis of normative masculinity as a factor of social change in the history of different societies and in different states? Or can we analyze crisis of normative masculinity as a result of social change only? Also fruitful can be the study of masculinity in the biographical and demographic methods, analysis of «men’s writing», the introduction of the problem of masculinity in the field of history of everyday life, history of mentality, family history, oral history and sociohistorical anthropology.
